About AOPA

Having joined the International Council of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associations (IAOPA) in 2020 as the only national organisation representing Belgian pilots and aircraft owners FBA – BFL also operates as AOPA Belgium’. IAOPA is a non-profit federation of approximately 80 autonomous, non-governmental,

national general aviation organisations. Only one such national organisation per country can become
member of the Council.

Working as AOPA Belgium

* Provides us a way to get our membership
more efficient representation at European and global level.
Let's face it, especially the European reality is that our national CAA has to act like an agent of EASA.

* Allows us to connect to the global
AOPA network and its benefits to our member pilots.

Our history

The history of AOPA started in the US, where it was founded in 1939. In the years following World War II of aviation's explosive growth, AOPA played an important role in helping bureaucrats and lawmakers understand the special needs of general aviation pilots. ``

International

the International Council of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associations (IAOPA) was founded in 1962. Led by AOPA US, four other national organizations participated: AOPA Australia, AOPA South Africa, the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association and the Philippine Airmen's Organization.

From the beginning, IAOPA took part in ICAO meetings, but it was in 1964 that it was awarded ICAO accredited status, thus taking a permanent seat at the table.
