About AOPA Belgium
Joined the International Council of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associations (IAOPA) in 2020 as the only national organisation representing Belgian pilots and aircraft owners, FBA – BFL also operates as ‘AOPA Belgium’. IAOPA is a non-profit federation of approximately 80 autonomous, non-governmental, national general aviation organisations. One such national organisation per country can become a member of the Council.
Working as AOPA Belgium
Provides us with a way to represent our membership more effectively at European and global level. Let’s face it, the European reality in particular is that our national CAA needs to act as an agent of EASA.* Allows us to connect to the global AOPA network and deliver its benefits to our member pilots.
Our history
The history of AOPA began in the United States, where it was founded in 1939. Over the post-World War II years of explosive aviation growth, AOPA played a key role in helping bureaucrats and legislators understand the special needs of general aviation pilots.

International
The International Council of Aircraft Owner and Pilot Associations (IAOPA) was founded in 1962. Led by AOPA US, four other national associations joined: AOPA Australia, AOPA South Africa, the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association, and the Philippine Airmen's Organization.
IAOPA participated in ICAO meetings from the beginning, but it was in 1964 that it was granted ICAO-accredited status, giving it a permanent seat at the table.
